We’d like to thank all the contestants and helpers for the good times on the slope here in Iceland.
Despite being the lowest number of pilots we made the best of what we had and ran with the competition and were rewarded with good conditions. As the weather forecast had progressed over the last few days it was clear that we’d end up in Ghosthills west (Draugahlíðar vestur) and so it went. The only deviation was that the rain lingered around a bit longer so the first flight wasn’t until 11:40 but after that it stayed dried though one or two drops appeared on sunglasses.
With only four contestants most of the competition and the landing being a short walk away in rough and heavy terrain we took a break after each five rounds to give the contestants a chance to relax a little. The pedometer for one of the contestants showed 13 km after the day so this was tough indeed.
The contest went fairly well and not much of accidents happened though one contestant stripped his ailerons horn in one landing and later on and old repair on the tail boom of his spare glider opened up. That happened during round 13, read into that what you will but even though he took this with a stiff upper lip, as our friends say, this put some additional pressure on the other contestants as the time between flights was reduced. The contest director put in some extra minutes here and there to keep things civil and shortly after five we managed to finish round number 20 and with that Iceland Open F3F 2025 was over.
Formal ceremonies were conducted on Saturday evening with prize giving ceremony and a gala dinner with partying well into the night… well almost as most were still knackered after the Friday rounds and went home early to rest for some Sunday flying.
Some 118GB of video and over 2000 pictures were taken by the official photographer so it will take some to go through it all and publish but stay tuned.
It would be hard, if not impossible, to run a contest like this without the assistance of good helpers. So Gústi, Gunni, Gunni, Jón and Maggi get our best thanks for all the assistance.
Last but not least we’d like to thank our sponsors, MKS, Zepsus and TUD Modelltechnik.
